Historical Background - Jacob's Ladder:

The Jacob's Ladder toy dates back to Pilgrim times in the New World and was allowed as a Sunday toy for Puritan children because of its biblical reference (Genesis 28:12). Jacob was on a journey and had a dream about angels moving up and down a ladder between heaven and earth. Other Sunday toys included the Handkerchief Doll (church doll), Noah's Ark, Whirlygig, Pillars of Solomon, Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, and the Buzz Saw. The Jacob's Ladder toy is still enjoyed today by both children and adults (as a "nice quiet toy").
