Historical Background - Honey Dipper:

The history of the Honey Dipper is debatable but its invention is generally attributed to William H. Perrin in 1879. Honey Dippers are paired with honey as gifts for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, with the words, “L’Shana Tova” which means “for a good year.”

Historically, a wooden honey dipper is left in the honey pot with the honey. When using a honey dipper, pull it slowly out of the pot in an angle and make sure just the tip of the dipper is covered in honey. A twisting motion with the handle causes the honey to stay on the dipper. Quit twisting the handle and the honey will be released in a slow steady stream, which allows for an even coating on your food or in your drink. Then without having touched any other foods or liquid, return the honey dipper to the honey pot. The honey dipper can be washed by hand. Let it air dry completely before returning it to the honey pot.

Honey Dippers are also known as honey drippers, honey drizzlers, honey spoons, honey sticks and honey wands.
